The group teaches Lip-reading to enable the hearing impaired people to better manage their hearing loss through the combination of their hearing aids and the ability to Lip-read. The combination of both have proved to dramatically improve conversation understanding. In addition we invite qualified people to address members of the Group as well as the interested public to be brought up to date on technological improvements of Hearing and Listening devices at no cost to the public.
Lessons are held every Wednesday morning during the school term. The lessons are in two periods: 9.30 am to 10.30 am Lip-reading, 10.30 to 11.00 am morning tea and 11.00 to 11.30 am introductory Auslan sign language. The lessons are held in a very friendly environment with a lot of fun. At the end of each term we visit a restaurant for morning tea or lunch.
All of the above contributes to rebuilding confidence within our members to be able to converse in crowded situations.
