GRAI works to protect the rights and well being of LGBTI elders, building visibility of their needs to ensure that they will be safe and welcomed whether accessing aged care services or in the community.
In the community we work to strengthen friendship networks and combat social isolation, organising social events such as film nights and picnics, and an annual intergenerational cafe as well as information forums on issues such as end of life planning, housing, and cyber safety. We have 2 on-going social programs, a discussion group that meets fortnightly in Mandurah and Perth, and a monthly lunch group for older lesbians.
Our work with aged care providers promotes LGBTI inclusive services. We deliver training to the sector, offering full and half day workshops, as well as a 5-day program that runs over 8 months. We also speak at conferences and deliver specially tailored training if requested.
