Leo Rhodanthe is a Perth based peer support worker currently completing a Bachelor of Psychology at Curtin University. Alongside Emery Wishart in 2018, Leo co-founded WA’s first peer-led, non-clinical suicide support organisation DISCHARGED. In their role at DISCHARGED, Leo has gathered years of experience co-facilitating Alternatives to Suicide peer support groups people experiencing suicidal thoughts, feelings or actions. In 2019, they acted as a Lived Experience Researcher on Curtin HREC approved evaluation of these groups. This involved them co-designing the project as well as leading elements of data collection, data analysis and report write-up. In addition to running groups, Leo also co-facilitated various trainings to help others engage with people in suicide distress. As a result of the Alternatives to Suicide Program, they have become a certified Alternatives to Suicide Facilitator Trainer and look forward to advancing suicide peer support right across the nation. Passionate about making a difference in the lives of those in need, Leo will always be dedicated to finding new ways to heal and grow, both as an individual and as part of the collective.
