The Moorditj Yoka Womens Group meets at LAA on Saturday afternoons which is a culturally safe environment. The women make things, they yarn and share stories and support each other if issues arise and they don’t know who to approach. Many of the women are carers for either their partners, grandchildren and other family members as needed. Mental Health is rife in the Aboriginal community due to past policies, additions and the impact of serious drug use by children of the women. The women often have to parent 2 generations: their children and their grandchildren. This group is a respite from the issues of family life i.e. mental health, disability, demands of young children, ill partners and other issues. The group continues to learn about cultural knowledge through guest speakers, cultural tours, Noongar language lessons and many other aspects of Aboriginal life. There is still so much more to learn from those who hold the knowledge of the Aboriginal way, their journey is a life long journey of learning.
Weekly meetings on Saturdays 12 pm – 3pm
